To the South of Picardy is the delightful, relaxed region of Normandy where you can stroll around the old port in enchanting Honfleur or explore the narrow streets around Mont St Michel. The lovely town of Cabourg where the famous writer Marcel Proust found his inspiration is a delightful place to spend the day and the beaches that span the coast between Honfleur and Cabourg are a fabulous place to relax. There is also Caen, city of William the Conqueror, often forgotten but truly amazing with more churches than you can visit, some dating back to the 11th century.
With nearly 400 miles of shoreline, Normandy forms a huge part of history, especially famous for the D-Day landings. Quaint fishing villages and elegant resorts appear along the coastline boasting superb sandy beaches.
Often by-passed for more southerly regions, this delightful area has so much to offer with its glorious beaches, seaside resorts and charming local markets. Lush green rural landscapes with mile upon mile of apple orchards, mature forests and historic towns are found as you head inland away from the coast.
