The old town of Reims consists of a lattice work of cobbled streets and small alleys that converge on the pedestrianised place Drouet d’Erlon. This is where all the action is and where you’ll find the shopping arcades, cafes and restaurants.

The central area between the cathedral and the place Drouet d’Erlon is easily covered on foot, but you may want to use the bus service to the Saint Remi Basilica and to some of the champagne houses. TUR Citadine buses no. 1 and 2 run in a circuit around the centre.

To visit the Champagne area itself, the best mode of transport is undoubtedly the car. Driving through the region allows you to be flexible and relaxed on the routes you take and the places you visit. The vineyards, châteaux and villages are scattered throughout the region and driving by car will enable you to see as much or as little as you like.
