Lisbon has an excellent range of traditional and fresh seafood restaurants as well as an abundant colonial mix of Brazilian, Indian and Chinese. Being right on the Atlantic, seafood is prominent and varied with many of the best fish restaurants being located in Estoril and Cascais. Meat dishes are also plentiful with a leaning towards lamb and pork. Tascas are generally small family run outlets frequented by locals and are ideal for a good value lunch.
For sweet-toothed travellers, the custard-filled pastél de nata and the arroz doce (a creamy rice pudding) are highly recommended.
For planning purposes, lunch is taken generally between 1-3pm whilst dinner is eaten between 7-10pm.
