Lisbon offers a refreshing array of character-laden outlets, something that is so uncommon with major cities today. It offers a combination of modern stores, offbeat boutiques and cutting-edge fashion outlets. Most of the fashion stores can be found at the northern end of Avenida de Liberadade or in the districts of Chiado and Bairro Alto de Liberadade. Shops generally open their doors between 9-10am, and close for lunch at 1pm. They open again in the afternoon at about 3pm and remain open until 7-8pm. Nevertheless, it should be noted that many shopping centres and larger establishments do not close during the day. Shops in the Bairro Alto generally only open in the afternoon but don’t shut until about 9pm.

At weekends, most shops open on Saturday 9am-1pm but some malls stay open until midnight and also open on Sunday. Most shops close on public holidays.
