Passport & Visa
UK nationals holding a full valid EU passport do not require a visa to enter Morocco provided that they have at least six months validity on their passport beyond the date of entry, and on condition that their stay does not exceed 90 days. Entry to Morocco will not be permitted without a valid passport. On the aircraft, boat, or at the border, travellers will be required to fill in a form with standard personal and passport details, an exercise to be repeated in almost all hotels throughout the country. Other nationals please check before travelling as to which documents are required. For more travel advice visit www.fco.gov.uk and got to ‘Travel Advice by Country’.
Vaccinations
There are currently no requirements for British citizens. Please check with your GP or visit www.dh.gov.uk
Currency
The Moroccan currency is the Dirham (Dh) divided into 100 centimes. There are 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 DH notes, 1, 5 and 10 Dh coins and 5, 10, 20 and 50 centime coins. You can only obtain Dirhams in Morocco. You can change money at a bank or approved change office (indicated by a golden sign). No commission is charged and you will be given a slip which will be required at the end of your stay to change any remaining Dirhams back into the original currency. You can withdraw money from cash dispensers in the larger towns. Credit cards are generally accepted in major hotels, shops and restaurants, and sometimes even in the souks. Travellers’ cheques are still the safest way to carry money and can be obtained in sterling denominations. Remember to make a record of your credit card or travellers cheques numbers and the emergency phone number for cancelling your card or cheques, should you need to.
Local time
Morocco is on Greenwich Mean Time all year round – the same time as Britain in winter, and one hour behind in summer.

Driving
The roads are generally good, but the local standard of driving (and walking) means that you can never relax your vigilance and should take a very cautious approach. Other than the unpredictable human element, you may also find that livestock wander onto the road, or adverse weather conditions such as melting snow or sudden rain storms can affect roads and tracks in outlying areas. Accident rates are very high, particularly at night time when unlit bicycles and mopeds, and unseen pedestrians, animals and potholes all become potential hazards.
Personal Safety
Please note the following:
- Leave all valuables, passports, tickets, credit cards and money etc in the hotel safe; only carry with you what you need for that day.
- Be aware of pickpockets, especially in tourist areas, on public transport, markets etc.
- When leaving a car, do not leave anything visible.
- If anything is stolen, please ensure you receive a police report.
