The most enjoyable way to explore Yprés is to walk. The town centre is very compact – and flat – and all the major attractions are centrally located within the old city walls. Cycling around the city is also popular. It may be advisable to hire a car to explore the surrounding areas and historic sites. The Flanders Fields Route is a circuit of 82km that begins and ends in Yprés and is the best way to see the area. Adjacent countryside is also a great place for country walks and hiking with maps and trails obtainable from the Tourist Office in the Grote Markt.
