Florence’s peak season runs from February to October, however May and early June are good months to visit – before the summer hordes and soaring temperatures take over. In August however, many Florentines are on holiday so you may find some shops and restaurants close.

Best times to go: April to June and September to December.

Best to avoid: July and August when it’s crowded, and can be quite hot for sightseeing.
