Limousin is a fairly undiscovered region of France, situated right in the centre of the country on the western slopes of the Massif Central. It is an area of beautiful unspoiled countryside with fresh air, clean water and lush vegetation.
The capital city of the Limousin region is Limoges, a city rich in history with a gothic cathedral and the Bishops garden and museum which houses some works by Renoir who lived in the city. Limoges is particularly well known for its porcelain and there is a museum as well as a number of craft shops in the city.
The south of the region, which borders the Lot and Dordogne, is the best known region to holidaymakers and there are a number of ‘most beautiful villages’ including Turenne, Collonges-la-Rouge and Curemonte.
Due to its countryside, rivers and lakes, Limousin is a popular location for a short break involving outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, sailing, canoeing, cycling and walking.
