Monaghan - Overview

Monaghan in the north west of Ireland is a quiet county, the perfect location for a relaxing short break or a chance to partake in the many outdoor activities on offer which include angling, cycling, golf and walking.

The county’s most famous resident is the poet Patrick Kavanagh who was born in Inniskeen in 1904 and the town attracts many visitors interested in finding out more about him and his work. The town has many points of interest including The Patrick Kavanagh Literary & Resource Centre and the poet is buried in the neighbouring graveyard.
Castleblayney is a small town with a population of 3,000 which is situated in the east of the county close to Armagh. Country and Western music is particularly popular and there are music nights held in the town’s many pubs.
