County Louth, and in particular The Cooley Peninsula, is an area which has been inhabited for thousands of years and has a rich history and numerous fascinating prehistoric sites. An area where you can imagine the legends and myth the region is known for: tales of giants, evil Quenn Meave and ancient battles.
County Louth on the east coast is small, covering just 317 miles but there are a number of great attractions: Knockabbey Castle has some of the best water gardens in the whole of Ireland which date back to the 11th century; the heritage town of Carlingford is a pretty medieval town with narrow streets set against the backdrop of the Slieve Foy Mountain and Carlingford Lough; Dundalk is a vibrant town with excellent facilities for tourists including good museums, bars, restaurants and shops.
