County Leitrim has the smallest population of any of the Irish counties but it attracts a high number of tourists thanks to its stunning landscapes, fantastic angling and numerous attractions.
The River Shannon weaves its way through the county and together with the recently opened Shannon-Erne Waterway and the many lakes in the region, provides fantastic opportunities for fishing and watersports. Carrick-on-Shannon is known as the cruising capital of Ireland but it also a favourite with anglers as there are 41 lakes within 10 kilometres of the town.
Water dominates the landscape in Leitrim and you will not fail to be impressed by its beauty. WB Yeats was so inspired by the 15 metre Glencar Waterfall near Manorhamilton that he wrote about it in his poem “The Stolen Child”.

There are strong links with traditional Irish music which is evident at many of the riverside pubs you’ll discover whilst exploring the county.
