Kilkenny City is regarded as Ireland’s medieval capital dating back over 1500 years. Today Kilkenny is an exciting cosmopolitan city with interesting individual craft shops, galleries, restaurants, cafes, pubs as well as many attractive historical buildings. The 800-year old Kilkenny Castle dominates the city, however a number of other interesting 11th and 12th century structures also remain such as four medieval abbeys, St Canice’s Cathedral and the pretty covered slipways.

Each year the city hosts one of the most famous comedy festivals in the world: The Cat Laughs Comedy Festival is a five-day international event held at the end of May/beginning of June.
