Wester Ross is a remote region of Scotland with stunning landscapes and some beautiful beaches. It is a region of islands, many of which are uninhabited but can be reached by ferries or smaller boats. It is a haven for wildlife and is particularly popular with birdwatchers. The island of Handa is a must for any keen ornithologist, each summer the island attract around 200,000 seabirds who breed on the sandstone cliffs, these include guillemots, razorbills, puffins, kittiwakes and skuas. Fishermen are also drawn to the area for the excellent loch fishing whilst the mountains attract walkers and climbers of all standards.
Ullapool is a busy fishing port situated on the sea inlet of Loch Broom. It is a pretty village with a natural harbour that remains one of Britain’s ten major fishing ports and you’ll be spoilt for choice with award-winning fish & chip shops, restaurants and pubs.
