It is best known as the birthplace of Charles Darwin and in 2009 the town celebrates the bi-centenary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of ‘On the Origin of Species’. The town has also been called ‘England’s finest Tudor town’ thanks to its 660 listed buildings.
Ironbridge is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums are nine fascinating museums that tell the story.
Shropshire is also home to 32 castles and stately homes, the Severn Valley Steam Railway and a number of charming market towns such as Ellesmere, Ludlow, Oswestry and Bridgnorth.
