The town of Oban and surrounding county of Argyll provide an ideal base for exploring the stunning Scottish Highlands and the islands of the Inner Hebrides: Coll, Tiree, Lismore, Kerrera and Mull. Oban, meaning little bay in Gaelic, is a busy working port and popular seaside holiday resort. As well as being known as the unofficial “Capital of the Highlands” and the “Gateway to the Isles”, Oban has a lot to offer holidaymakers, even Queen Victoria visited the town describing it as: “One of the finest spots we have seen.”
The region is steeped in history and the landscape can only be described as dramatic: wild rugged rocks, desolate beaches, rolling countryside and dominating mountains. Driving around the region you will be amazed at the number of castles in the region still standing as well as the awe-inspiring ruins. The area is popular with walkers and wildlife enthusiasts and there are also opportunities for surfing and sailing along the coast of the remote islands. It is also possible to take a boat trip to seal island to witness the animals in their natural habitat and the many sea birds that make their home in the bays.
