Located in the centre of England, Leicestershire is ideally located for a short break for people from across the country. It is also well placed for exploring the nearby cities of Birmingham, Derby, Nottingham, Peterborough as well as cosmopolitan Leicester itself. There are also a number of national attractions within the county including the National Space centre and the National Forest. The Grand Union Canal passes through the county and is a great way of exploring the region, as is a ride on a steam train at the Great Central Railway.
The town of Melton Mowbray, home of pork pies, is well worth a visit where you will also see the magnificent Belvoir Castle. For the children there is Twinlakes Park and Twycross Zoo as well as Wistow Maze near Kibworth and Conkers in the heart of the National Forest.
The county’s miles of unspoilt countryside provide fantastic opportunities for outdoor pursuits including cycling, horse-riding and walking – the Leicestershire Round is a 100-mile walk circling the whole county.
