Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s first National Park, encompasses a wide range of landscapes and offers fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities to get out and about and explore the region. The West Highland Way is a long distance walking trail from Glasgow to Fort William which passes through the National Park and runs along the banks of the Loch. Horseriding and cycling are also popular methods of exploring the region off-road. The West Loch Lomond Cycle Path is a particularly popular route which, over its 16½ mile length, only joins minor roads on three brief occasions.
Loch Lomond is the largest expanse of freshwater not only in Scotland but in the whole of Great Britain. As well as providing a stunning romantic backdrop to any short break, it is the centre of the National Park and provides the location for many activities such as fishing and boat trips.
For those wanting to explore more of Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh can easily be reached by car for a day-trip and travelling to the area is easy too: buses regularly run to Glasgow and Glasgow Airport is only a 20 minute drive.
