The Costa Verde (Green Coast) stretches from the city of Porto to the Spanish border.

The northern most point of Portugal, the Costa Verde is a picturesque region with some fascinating cities and towns most notably Porto, Braga and Guimaraes. Porto is Portugal’s second largest city, the atmosphere of which can only be described as bustling. There are some interesting historic buildings including a 12th century cathedral and narrow cobbled streets to explore. Braga has been an important trading centre since Roman times and is still the home of Portugal’s Bishops; as such there are many churches and palaces. Guimaraes dates back to at least the 9th century and many of its ancient building remain. The area is also famous for producing the wine Porto, or Port.
