The Costa de Prata (or Silver Coast) is the stretch of coast between Oporto and Lisbon. The capital of the region is Coimbra; the city’s university was founded in 1290 and is one of the oldest seats of learning in the world. The nearby town of Conimbriga has the largest Roman remains in Portugal and there are many other interesting historical towns including Tomar, Alcobaca and Obidos.
