The Amalfi Coast is visually stunning and benefits from a hot summer climate. In contrast to its rugged coastline, the interior of the region features untouched rural hamlets and hillsides covered with olive trees and lemon groves. This area is steeped in history with the famous site of Pompeii and museums of Naples. The half-hour climb to the top of Vesuvius, Europe’s only active volcano, is well worthwhile for the fantastic views. The islands of Capri and Ischia make fantastic day excursions and are easily reached by hydrofoil from Naples or Sorrento.
