Kent is quintessentially English – a landscape of rolling hills and valleys dotted with orchards, hop gardens, castles and picturesque villages. Just a short journey by train or road from London, and only a hop across the channel to Europe, Kent is a popular short break destination for both Britons and Europeans.
One of the main reasons for visiting Kent is for the historical buildings and gardens which are open to the public - the most famous and most popular being Sissinghurst, Winston Churchill’s Chartwell, Hever Castle and Penhurst Place. The cathedrals of Canterbury and Rochester are awe-inspiring and there are there are a number of other famous attractions such as Leeds Castle, Dover Castle and Secret Wartime Tunnels and the historic Dockyard at Chatham. During apple blossom season the county is even more stunning whilst at harvest time visitors can sample Kent’s varied produce sold at the markets, roadside stalls and farm shops.
