This is a beautiful region which attracts a wide range of visitors drawn to the region’s diversity: a beautiful landscape of rolling countryside, lush orchards and ancient woodland; quaint villages with historic black and white timbered houses; fascinating cities brimming with cultural attractions.
In Hereford itself the Norman Cathedral is well worth a visit and you will also find the world’s oldest map, the Mappa Mundi here. In the county there are more than 25 gardens open to the public with a variety of activities appealing to all ages. Herefordshire was home to the first Michelin Star pub in the UK and still produces some first-class produce which you will undoubtedly sample, of particular note are the local cider, beef and dairy products.
The whole area is popular with ramblers, there are four long-distance trails passing through Herefordshire plus a 154-mile Herefordshire Trail within the county. In neighbouring Worcestershire the Malvern Hills are a favourite spot for walkers. The Victorian spa towns of Droitwich and Malvern are worth visiting and there are a number of other recommended attractions including the Royal Worcester Factory, the Museum of the Commandery, Avoncroft Museum of Buildings and The Severn Valley Steam Railway.
