During the last 10 years, shopping in Las Vegas has been revolutionised. Since the mid 1990s when Caesar’s Palace opened the first casino mall, the Forum Shops, with it’s big name chain stores and high fashion boutiques, almost every hotel-casino has followed suite and can offer some sort of shopping area. These, combined with the city’s assortment of malls, independent stores, and thriving antique district, have made Las Vegas into one of the USA’s best shopping destination. Amazingly, in one survey conducted in Vegas, two-thirds of visitors cited the shops as the main reason to visit. Vegas, is not however a great destination for bargain hunters, it’s more the excitement and flair the big casinos have brought into the shopping malls, which make them into ‘must-see’ attractions. In Las Vegas, sales tax of 7.625% is added to virtually everything you buy in shops, including restaurant meals, but it isn't part of the marked price. (Prescription drugs and un-prepared food bought in supermarkets are exempt).
