Amsterdam is very compact with all the main sites clustered together in the city centre, so getting around is very easy by foot. However, for getting a little further out and about, there is an excellent public transport system made up of buses, trams, ferries and the metro. These are all operated by GVB whose network comprises of 16 tram lines, over 30 bus lines, 5 ferry links and 4 metro lines, all with excellent connections, and night time services.
