After dark there is certainly no shortage of things to do. Berliners have always been enthusiastic music, theatre and concert aficionados and in addition to the monthly publication, Berlin Programm, there are two listings magazines, Tip and Zitty, which give details and reviews of all performances. There are also club listings in the free magazines, Flyer and 030. Theaterkassen (ticket offices) are normally the easiest, and sometimes the only, way of obtaining tickets for the major events, however they will charge a hefty commission on the ticket price.
Berlin today is well known for its alternative culture and pretty much anything goes within the city. The city has developed a large gay scene with many colourful events, parades and transvestite shows, which will actually appeal to everyone due to their outrageousness.
There is a wide selection of nightclubs, which range from the conventional trendy types to the punky student types to the techno style venues (which are normally constantly changing!). There is often an entry charge for most discos and nightclubs but there is usually a relaxed dress code and there are no fixed closing times.
Berlin has hundreds of different bars to try but the main trendy bars are in the Mitte and Charlottenburg districts. Entry to bars is officially restricted 18 years and above.
