There are numerous styles of places to eat from the stylish restaurants to the Kneipe (corner bars where you can enjoy a drink and a wholesome bar meal). Something not to be missed is the great German tradition of Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cakes) in one of the Konditorei (café / pastry shop).

The old breweries and beer halls (Brauhaus, Bierkeller and Biergarten) are also popular places for eating. More and more places are now starting to include vegetarian dishes on their menus but always be careful as a lot of vegetarian sounding dishes such as potato or lentil soup will often contain bacon or sausage.
