Since the breaking down of the Wall in 1989, Berlin has been reinstated as the political and cultural capital of a reunified Germany. Since that momentous event, Berlin has once again become a vibrant, exciting and lively city with much to offer its visitors including three opera houses, over 150 theatres, more than 170 museums and a good selection of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Whilst a period of new construction has created a dynamic and cosmopolitan city, it has also maintained its historical charm thus creating an intoxicating mixture of old and new.
On the 26th June 1963, 120, 000 Berliners gathered in front of the Schoneberg Rathaus (City Hall) to hear John F Kennedy make his infamous 'Ich bin ein Beliner' speech.

Out and About – by bike is the best way, but otherwise Berlin has an excellent public transport system which is very efficient and cheap with transport links to all parts of the city and beyond, 24 hours a day.

- Berlin has an extensive events calendar to suit all tastes and ages, with many events in the summer taking place out of doors.
- The historic centre of Berlin is relatively compact and can easily be explored on foot quite safely.
- Nightlife is wide and varied with everything from symphony orchestras, operas and theatre productions, to trendy nightclubs and bars, to satirical cabarets, open air concerts and transvestite clubs.
