Boulogne is France’s biggest fishing port and has been an important town and port since Roman times. The curious visitor can explore the many strata of history from the old Roman ruins, the ancient walls of the medieval Old Town, and the beautiful Cathedral of Notre-Dame, rebuilt in the early 19th Century after being destroyed in the upheavals of the French Revolution.
