Short breaks specialist Great Escapes is urging customers to try something different this festive season and travel to the lesser known Christmas markets of Ypres and Arras where there are some great deals available.
The traditional Christmas market destinations of Lille, Bruges and Brussels have once again been very popular and availability is now fairly limited. Great Escapes’ manager Jon Taylor says: “Both Arras and Ypres are charming old towns, packed with history which are within easy reach for a short break. In the run up to Christmas they have great markets which enable you not only to stock up on gifts, but also to soak up the festive spirit.”
The Ypres Christmas market is held in the middle of the town’s Grote Market and runs between 5th December and 3rd January. A three-night break at the 3* Novotel Ypres Centrum during this time costs from £109 per person based on two sharing with return Dover-Calais ferry crossing, saving £33 per person.
The Arras Christmas market is set against the arcades of the beautiful Grand’Place and has more than 60 exhibitors. Held between 28th November and 24th December it is reputed to be one of the best in Northern France. A three-night break at 3* Best Western Hôtel de l’Univers costs from £131 per person based on two sharing with return Dover-Calais ferry crossing, saving £41 per person.
